US Governors Affirm Confidence In Cybersecurity Of Election Systems

Statement from National Governors Association say presidential election outcome will accurately reflect voters’ choice.

In an attempt to dispel fears over security of the presidential election systems, the US National Governors Association (NGA) has issued a statement reaffirming the readiness on its part to handle any cybersecurity issues and emphasizing that the “election will fully and accurately reflect the choices voters make.”
The announcement from NGA chairman and Virginia governor Terry McAuliffe and vice-chairman and Nevada governor Brian Sandoval also features findings from a recent summit in Boston on integrity of voter data and computer-based voting, which says election officials are aware of potential vulnerabilities. It adds that “although no security precautions can completely eliminate risk, paper records are less vulnerable to manipulation and can be used to verify results.”
A Meet the Threat document published by NGA earlier elaborates the steps governors should take for the election tomorrow. It has a set of security questions for governors to tick off plus recommended measures to ensure there is adequate data back-up on paper copies and compact discs.
