Two Teenagers Arrested For Alleged Cyberattack-For-Hire Services

The American and Dutch suspects allegedly associated with Lizard Squad hacking group also operated websites to launch DDoS attacks and traffic stolen payment card details.

Two teenagers, Zachary Buchta of Maryland and Bradley Jan Willem van Rooy of the Netherlands, were arrested last month for their alleged roles in an international hacking scheme that involved cyberattack-for-hire services, distributed denial-of-service attacks, and trafficking stolen payment card account details. Also seized were four domain names used by the so-called Lizard Squad and PoodleCorp hack groups.
According to the US Department of Justice (DoJ), Buchta and van Rooy first came under the scanner when authorities, while probing harassing phone call complaints, came across the website phonebomber.net, which was operated by Lizard Squad. This led to the subsequent detection of the scam that included DDoS attacks on gaming, entertainment and media organizations, and compromise of payment card details of thousands of victims worldwide.
Buchta was arrested in Maryland and van Rooy is currently in custody of the Dutch authorities.
