T-Mobile Confirms Data Breach

An investigation has revealed unauthorized access to T-Mobile data; however, its unclear whether customer data is affected.

T-Mobile has confirmed unauthorized access to some T-Mobile data following reports that corporate resources were breached.
The update arrives after reports surfaced claiming the company had suffered a data breach and stolen personal data was being sold on an underground forum. The seller claims to have taken data related to more than 100 million people and says the information came from T-Mobile servers. It includes names, Social Security numbers, phone numbers, physical addresses, unique IMEI numbers, and drivers license data, according to a Motherboard reporter who
spoke with the seller
.
T-Mobile has confirmed the breach but not whether customer data was compromised.
We are confident that the entry point used to gain access has been closed, and we are continuing our deep technical review of the situation across our systems to identify the nature of any data that was illegally accessed, officials write in a statement.
The investigation will take some time, they report, but until its complete they cannot confirm the reported number of records affected or the validity of reports shared. T-Mobile will communicate findings with customers and stakeholders once we have a more complete and verified understanding of what occurred.
This is the latest in a series of data breaches for T-Mobile, which in January
reported
its fourth breach since 2018.
