For the first time, the number of ransomware attacks against businesses surpassed those against consumers, with the former up 363% Q2 2019 over Q2 2018, according to a new report from Malwarebytes.
Ransomware seems likely to continue its evolution in the second half of 2019, the report states, as malicious actors use attacks with worm-like functionality, along with ransomware attacks paired with other malware, in their attempts to get through security protections and make the most from their malicious investments.
Looking more deeply into the data, the report found certain families of ransomware predominated in detections, with Ryuk detections increasing by 88% over the first quarter of 2019, while Phobos exploded 940% in the same time.
