Petition Forces Parliament To Reconsider Surveillance Bill

100,000 signatures require MPs to consider debating Snoopers Charter again.

A petition to repeal a sweeping surveillance bill has obtained 100,000 signatures in the United Kingdom, forcing Parliament to consider re-debating the legislation. The Investigatory Powers Act, or Snoopers Charter, is currently only a bill, but it has already passed through Parliament and awaits only royal approval to become law.
The controversial Snoopers Charter would widely expand the British governments authority to surveil the data and communications of its citizens. The petition described it as an absolute disgrace to both privacy and freedom.
