NFL Tackles Twitter Account Hijack

Peggle Crew hacking group claims responsibility, says it stole password from email of social media employee.

The NFL’s official Twitter account was discovered hacked after a string of tweets claiming that Commissioner Roger Goodell had died were posted Tuesday morning, reports USA Today. The first of the false tweets was deleted but then was followed by more tweets from the hackers before being deleted as well. Goodell’s Wikipedia page also was edited to indicate his demise.
NFL spokespersons Greg Aiello and Brian McCarthy said the news of Goodell’s death was false and claimed the account had been compromised.
Publication Tech Insider said hack group Peggle Crew was behind the act and had claimed it got NFL’s Twitter password by hacking the email of a league employee who handles social media.
Law enforcement authorities are investigating the breach, according to NFL.
