Kmart Hit by Egregor Ransomware


Egregor is also behind recent attacks on UbiSoft and Barnes & Noble.



Longtime retailer Kmart has reportedly been hit by a ransomware attack that has shut down access to certain back-end systems. The attack, as reported by BleepingComputer, is apparently based on Egregor ransomware, the same system used in recent attacks on UbiSoft and Barnes & Noble.
Egregor is a ransomware strain that exfiltrates data pre-encryption and then threatens to release sensitive information if a ransom is not paid. Egregor appears to have grown rapidly as criminals turned to the system following the shutdown of the Maze ransomware operation.
