Julian Assange Arrested in London

The WikiLeaks founder, who was taken from the Ecuadorian Embassy by British police, has been convicted of skipping bail in 2012.

Seven years after entering the Ecuadorian embassy in London, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange was taken out of the building by British police, after which he was convicted of skipping bail and scheduled for sentencing at a later date.
But a bail violation is not Assanges most critical legal issue. The US has requested his extradition from Britain to face conspiracy charges in connection with Chelsea Mannings 2010 classified data leak. Because an extradition treaty exists between the US and Britain, it is generally assumed that Assange will ultimately be transferred to the US for questioning and trial.
In revoking his asylum at the embassy, Ecuador also suspended the Ecuadorian citizenship granted Assange under the previous administration. The government of Ecuador accused Assange and others at WikiLeaks of collaborating in attempts to destabilize the government.
