Interpol Analyzes Global Response to WannaCry Attack

Interpol cybercrime unit chiefs gather to evaluate the global extent of WannaCry and track criminals via blockchain analysis.

Interpol has called on cybercrime unit chiefs from Europe, Asia, and Oceania to evaluate the global response to the WannaCry ransomware attack. A total of 49 specialists from 31 countries will meet from June 6-8 in Madrid.
Experts will assess responses to a global survey conducted by Interpol to determine how many countries were affected by WannaCry, and to what extent. Because the attackers demanded ransom in Bitcoin, the meeting will also include tracking criminals via blockchain analysis.
Events will include a session on business email compromise, which will give a clearer, broader picture of the problem and provide best practices as the investigation continues. Delegates will also receive updates on the Interpol operation targeting cybercrime in the ASEAN region.
