FireEye Probes Suspected Breach Of Clinton Charity Site: Sources

Officials say attackers reportedly employed same technique as used in Russia-backed hacking of Democratic Party groups.

Cybersecurity firm FireEye has been hired by the Clinton Foundation to probe suspicious activities on its website likely by hackers who were responsible for the breach of Democratic Party groups, reports Reuters, quoting officials. Sources said Democrats feared hackers may use stolen data to undermine the Clinton presidential election campaign.
The hackers, believe officials, may have used spearphishing techniques to get into the website, similar to the method used in the earlier attacks by suspected Russia-backed hackers. One source said the technique indicated the attacks were more likely for espionage purposes than to influence the presidential election.
A Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee meeting was held to assess the situation and come up with remedial measures. However, to date there has been no public leak of information or messages that would confirm the hacking.
