Companies Fall Short on 2FA

New research ranks organizations based on whether they offer two-factor authentication.

While more organizations are adding multifactor authentication for user security, new research shows that, among 34 large US consumer websites, 76% fail to offer full two-factor authentication (2FA) options.
The research, conducted by Dashlane, ranked the websites by awarding one point for SMS or email authentication, one point for software tokens, and three points for hardware tokens. Any website receiving five points (out of the possible five) was graded as passing.
Of the websites tested, only four — Best Buy, NextDoor, TaskRabbit, and ZocDoc — didnt offer any 2FA capabilities. At the other end of the scale, eight websites — Bank of America, Dropbox, E-Trade, Facebook, Google, Stripe, Twitter, and Wells Fargo — received full marks.
