Asia Mulls Europol-Style Agency To Fight Cybercrime


Asian ministers hold closed-door meeting in Singapore to chalk out strategy for such an organization.



Cabinet Ministers from Asian nations recently met in Singapore to discuss creation of an organization to fight cybercrime in the region and worldwide, according to a report in The Register. This Asian Europol has support from China, Japan, Malaysia, Myanmar, Indonesia, and Singapore, and would resemble Europes Europol agency.
According to RSA’s Mike Brown, economic cybercrime across China was specifically discussed in the meeting held on the sidelines of the RSA APAC conference.
Stressing it would take time for this agency to be effective, RSA chief Amit Yoran said: There are a tremendous number of challenges that need to be tackled with consistency of law as well as action from government and law enforcement.
It starts as a discussion, but for it to come to a concrete idea is some time away, Singapore Minister for Home Affairs K Shanmugam said.
