Applebees Restaurants Hit with PoS Malware Attack

RMH, the second-largest Applebees franchisee, believes unauthorized software was placed on PoS systems at certain locations.

RMH Franchise Holdings is warning customers of a point-of-sale (PoS) malware attack at certain RMH-owned Applebees restaurants. The firm is the second-largest Applebees franchisee and owns 167 locations in 15 states.
The company recently learned of an incident affecting certain payment cards used at restaurants it owns and operates. An investigation determined unauthorized software was placed on PoS systems to capture card data and may have affected a limited pool of customers.
The names, credit or debit card numbers, expiration dates, and card verification codes processed during specific time periods may have been affected, and RMH notes the dates vary by location. RMH operates its PoS systems separate from the broader Applebees network, meaning this incident is limited only to RMH-owned restaurants.
