Acers Website Hacked, Customer Data Stolen

Tech firm says details compromised include names, addresses, credit card numbers, and security codes.

PC and laptop maker Acer revealed in a letter to California authorities that its US ecommerce website was breached over the last year and customer credentials including names, addresses, payment card numbers, expiry dates, and three-digit security codes, were stolen, Yahoo! Tech reports. Details of the nature of the attack--which occurred between May 12, 2015 and April 28, 2016--were not provided, according to the report.
Acers letter doesnt provide the actual number of customers affected who made purchases online in that period, but it says there is no evidence that their login credentials were accessed. Acer has asked all its customers to keep a watch on their account statements for irregularities.
Yahoo! Tech reports that a cybersecurity firm has been hired by the company to probe the hack and relevant payment card providers have been alerted.
