7 Florida Men Charged in Global Tech Support Scheme

Federal fraud charges have been filed against seven men for their involvement in an international tech support scam.

Seven Florida men have been charged for their participation in an international tech support scam, the Department of Justice announced today. As part of this scheme, scammers attempt to convince victims they have serious computer problems and try to sell unnecessary solutions.
Federal charges allege that all seven men worked for a Boynton Beach, Fla.-based company called Client Care Experts, formerly known as First Choice Tech Support based in Pompano Beach, Fla. According to indictments, the organization bought pop-up advertisements, which appeared on victims computer screens and locked their browsers.
The indictments state this scheme to cheat victims ran from November 2013 through June 2016. In that timeframe, Client Care/First Choice scammed more than 40,000 people and cheated them out of more than $25,000,000.
